Ceylon Arrack, a spirit made from the sap of coconut flowers, is looking to boost its off-trade presence.

The 40% abv drink pitched as having a subtle coconut aftertaste and "the nose of a tequila blended with rum and a dash of brandy" is said to be suitable for use in short cocktails or served straight over ice. Each 70cl bottle (rsp: £27.50) contains fermented and distilled sap from the flowers of four to six coconut trees. A contribution towards wildlife conservation in Sri Lanka is made for ­every bottle sold.

It is distributed by spirits specialists Mangrove, which is hoping to grow the brand through the on and off-trade this year, and is already on sale in Harvey Nichols.

"It's time to take Ceylon Arrack to the world," said Amal de Silva Wijeyeratne, CEO of Rockland Distilleries, the family-owned business that has been making the spirit since 1924.
