Eat 17 is launching two new grocery shops this year as part of a long-term expansion plan.
The premium food retailer is currently developing a site in Hammersmith, and is expected to open another store in Leytonstone later this year as part of its rollout rate of two stores a year.
This follows Eat 17’s latest store opening in Bishop’s Stortford in November, which offers an indoor world street market with seating for 55 diners.
Eat 17 works in partnership with wholesaler AF Blakemore to create a high-end convenience store with Spar branding.
The store format combines a traditional grocery shop with in-store dining, focusing on locally sourced fresh produce alongside world cuisine.
It offers a range of produce from independent local retailers, Eat 17 own-brand ranges, and Spar product staples.
There is also room for concessions such as fishmongers, florists and even a barber shop, as well as an in-store bakery.
“A whole lot of research goes into the food that we choose to put in stores, from sampling street food at festival stands, to taking inspiration from food markets in the capital,” said co-founder James Brundle. “We love to bring the best of the best into our stores, and we’re not just stopping at food - we have extended our offering to local non-food businesses such as florists and barbers.”
“For the moment, we are concentrating on growing the Eat 17 brand across London and we are aiming to open a minimum of two new stores per year.”
Eat 17 has doubled the number of its sites from three to six in less than a year, with an annual turnover of around £10m.
