Maltesers to go Fairtrade next year
Mars is switching its Maltesers brand to Fairtrade chocolate from next year. The move will boost total sales of Fairtrade in the UK by around 10%, with Mars expecting to pay cocoa farmers another £900,000 a year on top of current prices.

Fears that Tesco is to spark a new price war sent shares in supermarket rivals plummeting yesterday. Shares in Sainsbury’s fell by 2% yesterday, while Ocado was hit even harder. The online retailer saw its share price slump by 11%.

Heinz means business with HP Sauce salt reduction
Heinz has bowed to health campaigners – at the expense of angering traditionalists – by cutting the salt in HP Sauce by almost 40%. The US manufacturer announced yesterday it had reduced the amount of salt in the fry-up staple from 2.1g per 100g serving to just 1.3g.
