Cadbury has put Fudge back into its most popular Christmas selection box – 18 months after widely reported consumer ‘fury’ over the child-friendly treat being replaced by a Dairy Milk Oreo option.
This festive season will see Cadbury Dairy Milk Medium Selection Box (rsp: £2.99/138g) once again contain a Fudge ‘finger’ instead of the Oreo bar – which was introduced in 2017 to give the box greater appeal to older children.
However, numerous shoppers used Twitter to express their displeasure, newspapers reported at the time. One person tweeted, ‘My Christmas is now ruined’, while others claimed to be ‘outraged’ and ‘actually so offended’ by the confectionery giant’s decision. Twitter user @Nigellicus even went as far as to accuse Cadbury of waging a ‘war on Christmas’.
@CadburyUK hi Cadbury, I am most upset that my selection box is missing a fudge. My Christmas is now ruined!

The return of Fudge showed the supplier had “listened to our consumers” said Alistair Scrimgeour, brand manager for Cadbury, which has unveiled its chocolate lineup for Christmas 2019.
It features several new festive lines including Dairy Milk Winter Gingerbread Edition tablet (rsp: £1.49/120g), Darkmilk Selection Box, a pack of four bars across original, Salted Caramel and Roasted Almond flavours (£5.95/340g); Dairy Milk Moneybox, a reusable tin in Freddo Faces and Buttons variants (rsp: £4/120g); Dairy Milk Secret Santa Gifting Hollow (rsp: £5/175g); and a pouch of Dairy Milk Little Robins in original and Daim (rsp: £1.49/86g-93g).
There is also Dairy Milk Angry Birds Advent Calendar containing toys and stickers (rsp: £9.99/212g) – part of a tie-up between Cadbury and this summer’s The Angry Birds 2 Movie. It will be joined by Angry Birds Plush Toy in a choice of two characters with a selection of chocolates (rsp: £5.99/71g)
