In good news for carnivorous astronauts (and any of their yummy-looking colleagues), Aleph Farms this week reported it had successfully produced meat on the International Space Station, 248 miles from any natural resources. Boffins used a 3D bioprinter to create a small amount of ‘cultivated beef’.
This might prove handy on a 14-month round trip to Mars – but Aleph is actually focused on Earth, saying it wants to “provide solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems, such as the climate crisis” by producing food with minimal resources.
Er… why do the experiment in space then?
