Snickers has managed to establish the catchy and clever ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ line with impressively few celebrity collaborations – Mr Bean as a ninja and Elton John as a rapper.
The third to join the lineup is Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp. His character – generally avuncular but with an obvious capacity for fury – makes him perfect casting, and while the value of sports stars to brands can vary with performance, the Reds’ recent struggles arguably make this gag work better.
We see Klopp fuming at a table football game, cursing the players’ formation – “3-5-2? Nobody plays that way any more!” – and urging them to move. He gives an amusingly whole-hearted performance, before a Snickers restores ‘him’ to what turns out to be herself: the rather more mild-mannered Alex, who plays nicely.
It’s more low-key than Snickers’ previous star offerings – but just as fun.
