Sweet snark in Germany, where a new law, called Kassengesetz (cash register law) has passed, requiring receipts to be issued for even the smallest transactions. It’s not environmentally friendly, but it will help prevent tax fraud, is the idea.
Unsurprisingly, this has hacked off German purveyors of small items, such as bakers – who must now to print receipts for even the tiniest tarts.
Pleasingly, some bantz-loving Bäckerei have responded by creating edible receipts, made of fondant or sugar paper and slapped on to doughnuts and cakes.
Choke on this, they seem to say – though authorities have, with trademark German good humour, clarified that retainable receipts must still be issued.
