Hooray. Christmas is upon us, and first out of the blocks with their seasonal ads are Lidl and Asda. So at this early stage, who’s on top?
Well, Asda has a punchy Fleur East song, a hashtag (so modern!) and dancing galore. It’s not terribly Christmassy - though at this early stage that’s a good thing.
But Lidl’s ad is still our favourite so far. Its ‘School of Christmas’ conceit is original and fun, with silly ‘lessons’ on cookery and decorating. There’s even an acting class to help people fake joy at getting rubbish presents.
Incidentally, both ads feature dressed-up dogs - could this be the big trend for Xmas 2015? Fingers crossed. We’re excited to see what breeds and outfits the other supermarkets come up with.
