Here’s an ad created with a YouTuber’s production company – usually a signpost for something insufferable. But Solo Coffee’s collab with Goon Squad is boundary-pushing and funny.
It stars a group of women chuckling over the ‘I like my men how I like my coffee’ concept: rich and Italian, boring and bitter, super sweet and so on. Then it’s Ashley’s turn. “I like my men like Solo Coffee,” she reveals, slightly maniacally. “Kept in the fridge and hidden from my landlord.”
She’s not joking: her pal pulls a head in a jar from said fridge. “It’s that missing guy from the news!” As her pals panic (there is some vomiting), Ashley breaks the fourth wall and starts marketing Solo to camera. “Who the f*** are you talking to?” asks her mate.
The ad doesn’t need its police intervention top and tail, but it’s an ingenious way to explain the coffee concentrate concept. Gruesome fun.
