The North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op is to roll out a communications headset in all its 140 c-stores to improve security and customer service.
The Quail Digital wireless and hands-free headset is voice activated and enables staff on the shop floor, warehouse and the offices to be in instant contact with each other.
Ian Stoddart, head of security at North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op, said: "A member of staff can easily call for assistance in order to help a customer or report a suspicious person. It also acts as a visual deterrent which helps us take a proactive stance to crime."
The headsets have been on trial for eight months in Mills c-stores in Lincoln, Scunthorpe and Worksop.
Richard Linsell, md of Mills (East Midlands), said: "It ensures the safe-keeping of the staff and as a result all workers on the shop floor feel more comfortable."
The Co-operative Group is looking at a selective roll out of the headsets from the North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op.
