The Bishopbriggs Morrisons on Kirkintilloch Road in Glasgow has won this week's Top Store award. Our mystery shopper there was impressed by the helpful and friendly staff. She noted that the managers made sure new checkouts were opened as soon as queues developed.

Sainsbury's in Bridgwater, Somerset, was quite clean, but its aisles were cluttered with shopping trolleys, making it difficult to navigate. Four checkouts were closed even though queues were building up.

Our mystery shopper at Asda, West Bridgford, Nottingham was pleased with her visit except for the fact that she could not complete her shopping basket. The staff were helpful and offered to help pack her bags. She also approved of Asda's new bags, which are "a lot better than the old ones and do not split".

Our shopper appreciated the Waitrose store in Wilmslow, Cheshire, being quiet. The store, a former Safeway that was relaunched last year after it was sold by Morrisons, did provide good service but not all the items he was looking for.

Our mystery shopper at the Somerfield in Maltby, Rotherham found staff unhelpful. One assistant told her: " I only scan things, I have no idea about actual stock."

The Tesco store on Foxhole Road in Chorley, Lancashire was clean but had long queues at the cash registers.
