Chelmsford Star Co-operative is to adopt the Co-operative Group's unifying fascia at its largest store as part of a revamp.

The Essex-based society is to trial the fascia at its supermarket in Kings Road, Chelmsford, for three months from mid-February

The 5,500 sq ft store will close for two weeks at the end of January for a complete refit.

The decision was taken to redesign the store after reviewing responses to a customer survey. "People felt the range wasn't big enough," a spokeswoman said. "We're increasing by 30% the number of lines."

The store's internal colour scheme is being changed with The Co-operative Group's internal branding of different colours for different sections. The store is a pilot, but if it is successful it will be rolled out. The society has 27 food stores.

So far Midcounties Co-operative and Manx Co-operative Society have signed up to The Co-operative fascia, with Leeds Co-operative trialling it.
