United Wholesale (Scotland) is to open its first dedicated delivery warehouse in Glasgow this week as it prepares to launch a nationwide service that could double company turnover.

United will offer 1,000 ambient lines to retailers in Scotland and the north-west from its 70,000 sq ft warehouse in Queenslie, with a full range of another 10,000 lines available from its two south Glasgow cash & carry depots.

Sales and distribution director Michael Koetsier said: "We project turnover of £40m for first full year of the new depot, which, combined with current group growth, should give us turnover of about £150m next year. However, we anticipate that the depot will turn £100m on its own within three years, which would take group turnover above £200m."

He revealed that United wanted to offer a nationwide wholesale delivery service for independents next year. It also plans to launch a multilingual e-commerce website.
