Procter & Gamble has strengthened its commitment to the north west with the unveiling of a £15m distribution centre in West Lancashire.

P&G has recruited more than 130 workers to operate the 360,000 sq ft Skelmersdale Northern Service Centre, which consolidates all P&G's products for the area on to one site.

Andrew Morris, Skelmersdale site manager, said: "Products had to be stored at a number of locations in the area, then brought here for assembly before being delivered to customers. Now everything is under one roof, we are saving more than 150,000 miles of travel per year."

P&G vice chairman, global operations Bob McDonald said: "With this level of investment, P&G has a strong stake in the region. We are committed to being an industrial leader in the north west of England."
