Sainsbury’s head of direct marketing, Jonathan Latham, is to leave the company as part of a major restructuring of the marketing department.
It is thought that Latham will go later this month, along with a further 100 members of the 300-strong marketing department. Despite the cull, Sainsbury is currently recruiting staff to the marketing department.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury said: “We have de-layered the department and have also taken the opportunity to restructure - as a result we are looking to recruit people.”
The supermarket plans to appoint more brand specialists and senior marketers. The vacant positions include loyalty manager, nutrition and health manager, and head of revenue generation in the brand communications team.
This is the latest round of redundancies to be announced at central office. In October, Sainsbury said it planned to axe about 750 jobs across central office by the end of this month.
Chief executive Justin King said the running costs of Sainsbury’s central office were significantly higher than those of its competitors and savings had to be made.
