Tesco leaps ahead in the fascia chart to take the top spot, closely followed by Sainsbury in second place.

Tesco is particularly strong on alcoholic drinks, household and health and beauty and makes good use of bogofs and other multibuy offers, though price promotions clearly dominate the alcoholic drinks section.

Alcoholic drinks maintains its lead at the top of the category chart but does not draw any further ahead. Soft drinks is the closest competition coming in seven percentage points behind in second place. Soft drinks has a large number of buy one get one free offers and is frequently sited upon side stacks and floor stacks along with gondola ends.

Health and beauty continues in third place while household comes in as a new entry at number four. Comfort and Persil both prove to be strong supporters of the household success this week.

Stella Artois jumps to the top of the brand chart, up seven places from last week. Price promotions are clearly the preferred promotional mechanic for the brand this week and there are sitings on floor stacks and side stacks. McVitie’s, Kellogg’s and Mars all move up the chart with McVitie’s holding second place. There are three new entries this week - Coca-Cola, Tango and Kronenbourg with Coca-Cola being the highest new entry coming in at number five. Heinz and KP both move down the chart this week and now hold numbers eight and nine respectively.

In the own label category chart frozen dominates at number one, standing nine percentage points ahead of soft drinks which comes in at number two.

Both of the leading own label categories use multibuy offers extensively.
