Northern Food-owned Holland’s Pies has stepped in to fill a quiche shortage after a fire razed the premises of Asda’s own-label supplier, Hilliers.
It is the first range of chilled quiches supplied by Holland’s, which pulled out the stops to develop it from recipe to delivery in seven days - a process that would normally take months.
The four quiches, with an rsp of £1.45, are Holland’s-branded while Asda works to get Smartprice quiches, rolls and deli pies back on shelf.
An Asda spokesman said details of which company would supply Smartprice had not been finalised. “Our priority was to get quiches back on-shelf. Although Holland’s has been great, it is just an interim measure.”
All 350 jobs at Hilliers of Plymouth have been lost and the company is being liquidated.
