Stans Superstore, the only one-store outfit in The Grocer's Top 50 ranking of independent grocery retailers, has finally secured a second store following lengthy negotiations.
The Shropshire-based independent supermarket secured a site, in Llangollen, Clwyd, in October 2009, but less than a month later it emerged a developer was pushing for a new supermarket in the town, which would be in direct competition with Stans.
Stans has since held negotiations with the owners of the site a disused car showroom and filling station and a new offer has now been accepted.
"A verbal agreement has been reached and we're in the process of signing it all up with the solicitors," confirmed director Andrew Faulks.
Stans Superstore is listed at number 47 on The Grocer's Top 50, with sales of £16m, down 7% in the past year.
