Asda.com has won the Star Order award for shopping excellence for the second consecutive quarter.

Our shopper logged into Asda's website without any problems and found it easy to navigate and locate all 33 products on our shopping list. Instructions on how to order were clear and the payment process was simple to complete.

A delivery slot between 10am and 12pm was requested and the driver arrived promptly at 10am. He was particularly chatty and helped our shopper unload the shopping, before collecting the carrier bags.

Each of the 33 items our shopper was asked to purchase were successfully delivered, which was no mean feat considering the excessive number of out-of-stock or missing items that have tainted previous surveys.

All the items were delivered undamaged and the loose fruit and vegetables individually selected by the pickers at the supermarket were well chosen.

In our previous survey in January, the soonest Asda could deliver our shopper's items was in three days, but this time it was able to deliver the next day.

With consistent 80% year-on-year sales growth, Asda currently delivers to 80% of the UK but expects to increase the area it covers to 95% by the end of the year. Asda is lagging behind Tesco's coverage, which currently stands at 98%.

Tesco also has an environmental advantage over Asda because its website offers shoppers the option to have some of their items delivered in crates instead of plastic bags.

But this should not be the case for too long, according to Richard Ramsden, Asda's head of home shopping, and former head of Tesco.com's customer insight division. "We are focused on improving our in-store picking systems to minimise the use of plastic bags as this is an environmental concern of our customers," said Ramsden.

"Four stores are now trialling these picking systems, which will result in crates rather than bags being used in deliveries. We are also updating our grocery home shopping website, which will be launched later this year. Hopefully this will enable us to claim our third award from The Grocer."
