Sainsbury has made internal management appointments as it replaces key executives.
Penny Vegting is appointed brand and format development manager. She replaces Diana Hunter, senior project manager for future stores.
Hunter left Sainsbury on February 2 to become head of merchandising for Waitrose (The
Grocer, November 15, p19). In her previous role as a project manager on the retailer’s brand marketing strategy, Vegting worked to develop existing store designs and new store concepts. Before that she held several senior management roles within trading and marketing.
In addition, Claire Rice, who joined as buyer for continental and organic cheese in April 2002, has replaced Velda Fitzpatrick as senior buyer for yogurts and desserts.
Fitzpatrick left to join web-based delivered wholesaler Blueheath as buying manager.
Rice has held buying roles for a variety of multinational companies, beginning her career in Germany.
Range performance manager David Guest has taken on Jane Wakeling’s responsibilities for regional ranging.
Wakeling left Sainsbury to become Food from Britain’s regional food and drink manager (The Grocer, November 1, p15).
Guest retains his responsibility for a team of ‘micro choice’ analysts whose work involves supporting Sainsbury trading teams to deliver improved choice for the customer.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury described Guest’s new role as “a natural extension to the role his team plays in looking into local customer needs”.
