Constellation Wines has made its first acquisition since being formed earlier this year. It has purchased Irish wine operator Allied Drinks, which previously represented BRL Hardys' and Grants of St James's wine brands in Ireland. Redmond Gavin has been appointed as division general manager.

Total UK retail sales for May were £17,470m, up 2.5% year-on-year [National Statistics Office]. Seasonally adjusted volume annual growth in food stores was down to 3.3% from 5.8% in April. Non-food stores rose to 3.8% from 1.7% in April.

Sales of traditional tea have declined in the UK in the last five years, having lost out to fruit and herbal tea sales, according to Datamonitor which said volume sales of these non-traditional teas had risen by 50% since 1997.

In a two-year deal Costcutter has appointed Galleria to install web-based space planning software at its head offices near York.
Costcutter will make the service available throughout its estate of 1,150 stores around the UK.
