Pots of reasons for yoghurt’s increase in popularityConsumption of yoghurt has increased by 3.1% in the past year. It is regarded as a healthy food with 46% of yoghurt eaten for health reasons.
Enjoyment is the second biggest reason with four-fifths eaten for health or enjoyment.
Consumption increases with age in the adult population. Women aged 45+ are key consumers accounting for 27% of consumption occasions, while 10% of men in this group eat yoghurt at meal times.
Yoghurt is also important to the children’s market, with a variety of brands successfully aimed at younger age groups.
The main meal is the most important time for yoghurt, suggesting yoghurt is eaten as a light or healthy dessert.
It is popular as a quick and healthy breakfast and lunch, with almost half of all yoghurts eaten on these occasions.
Yoghurt is also popular in the lunchbox, especially among children aged 6-10 and men aged 35-64, who consume just under half of all yoghurts in the lunchbox.
