Greencore Group said it had been able to offset high ingredients prices by upping on shelf prices, leading to sales growth of 4% for the half-year.

The supplier said sales were up 6% in its convenience foods division, driven by chilled food sales which had risen 9%. The company said it had increased capacity in that area to meet demand.

It confirmed that it had successfully disposed of its UK bread activities for 30m euros and said it would invest the cash in its convenience foods operations.

Greencore said sales in the six months to March 26 rose by 4% overall. However, pre-tax profit declined by 3% to 30.1m euros in the same period.
