Rachel’s Organic is about to open a £3m extension to its dairy headquarters and main processing plant in Aberystwyth, trebling its output in the process.
The new wing, which opens next month, will provide an extra 20,000 sq ft of space, taking the total to more than 30,000 sq ft.
This will increase its processing capacity from almost 5 million litres of Welsh milk a year from organic dairy farms to 15 million, producing more than 10 million pots of organic yogurt.
Managing director Neil Burchell said: “The new facilities are good news for organics, and will allow us to really motor with NPD.
“Consumer demand for organic dairy produce is strong and increasingly sophisticated. There is a real appetite for product innovation in brands people trust, like Rachel’s Organic.
“Food safety and nutrition issues are also currently high profile political issues, with moves
to encourage healthier diets.” The new facility has been built with assistance from the Welsh Assembly and the Welsh Development Agency’s processing and marketing scheme.
It will be opened by First Minister Rhodri Morgan on November 11.
