The original founders of Poundworld have opened what they are billing the “UK’s biggest pound shop”.
The 12,000 sq ft store in Bradford is the latest to be opened by the new chain One Below, which sells everything at £1 or under.
Founded by Chris Edwards and his son of the same name, who together built Poundworld into a £150m retail business, the chain opened its first store in March this year. The latest store, which opened today in a former Poundworld unit in Bradford Forster Square Retail Park, is One Below’s 54th.
It stocks 8,000 products, starting at 29p, in 10 departments including groceries, home, health & beauty, baby care, toys, DIY, craft and gardening. Around 60% of the range is fmcg.

The new store also features a 22-metre party aisle, current stocking Halloween fancy dress.
One Below said many of the 20 new jobs created at the store had gone to former Poundworld staff made redundant when the chain collapsed last year, three years after the Edwards sold it to TPG Capital.
“We’re excited to launch our One Below superstore in Bradford,” said Edwards Jr, the chain’s managing director. “We will have the UK’s biggest range of items for £1 or under, sold under one roof. We offer stand-out value and a simple, fresh shopping experience for bargain hunters.”
