Duchy Originals, the organic brand with royal connections, is planning to expand its portfolio by up to 50 new products in the coming year, including the new territories of yoghurt, cream and butter.

The company, established by HRH the Prince of Wales in 1990, has already unveiled additions to its Christmas range, and last month announced the launch of tarts, flans and pasties from its newly-opened plant in Launceston, Cornwall.

It is looking to add savoury and sweet pies to this offering in the near future.

Group product director Andy Lewis said yoghurts would be the next collection off the production line. A range is due to appear on shelves this autumn, after a two-year search for a production partner that could fulfil the company's high specifications on ingredients and quality. Butters and creams are set to follow next year.

Sugar confectionery is also on the agenda, as the company looks to capitalise on increasing public interest in premium foods.

Meanwhile, the new Yuletide additions include an organic stilton and a gift box of organic Champagne truffles, which will be available in fine food stores but are primarily exclusive deals with Sainsbury and Waitrose.

The Waitrose collection includes fresh organic sauces - cranberry with orange liqueur, tart redcurrant and thick bread sauce, all at £2.39 for 300g - and a family-sized Christmas pudding, while the Sainsbury line-up includes a free-range turkey crown, Alaskan smoked salmon cured with sea salt, honey and sugar, a 100g organic Christmas pudding and a chocolate orange biscuits drum.

A cookbook, which will be launched for Christmas, reinforces the company's ethos, as well as offering 100 recipes featuring Duchy Originals products.

The company is in discussion with booksellers to stock the work, which features photographs from the Prince's Home Farm in Gloucestershire, but has already agreed on a gift pack with Sainsbury.
