Bacon fans will have a chance to smash their way to a cool million pounds next year in a national promotion being run by the Dutch Meat Board. Dubbed smash the million pound piggy', the on-pack promotion is a repeat of a hugely successful initiative run by the DMB at the end of 2000. Organisers said the promotion resulted in sales uplifts of more than 30% for Royal Crest bacon in participating multiples. Most supermarket chains and co-ops will be running the promotion  as will lceland. Trade marketing controller Barbara Green said: "The promotion goes live on February 4 and will be in stores for around four weeks. There will be more than five million promotional packs and it will run on selected lines in each retailer." She said the DMB had committed £150,000 for radio ads to support its activity and added: "It's a big investment for us." Twenty punters will be able to go for the million  while 3,000 others will be instant winners of piggybanks. The lucky 20 will smash piggybanks to determine their final prizes. Of these, 18 will win £1,000, one will end up with £5,000 and just one consumer will scoop an invitation to go on the main smash and grab. The overall winner will smash piggybanks containing either £200, spot prizes or a cheque for £1m. All the piggybank smashing takes place in the UK in June after which the 20 winners will be flown to Amsterdam for a weekend break. They will receive their cheques in Holland during a special gala dinner. {{P&P }}
