The Faccenda and Cargill venture will iintegrate 6,000 staff and both supply chains

Faccenda Foods and Cargill have launched their new poultry joint venture, which will be called Avara Foods.

The joint venture, unveiled this week as the “latest major player in the UK poultry sector”, gained approval from the Competition & Markets Authority last month, and will encompass the entirety of the Faccenda and Cargill UK poultry businesses, with ownership shared on a 50/50 basis.

The Avara name represented a nod to the word avian and the Italian and Spanish translations for “appetite for success”, said a spokesman for the joint venture.

The business will bring together some 6,000 staff employed by the two businesses into a “fully integrated supply chain focused on delivering high-quality fresh food to UK customers”, it said in a statement.

“This is an exciting day,” said CEO of the new company Andy Dawkins. “Launching Avara Foods brings together two successful businesses with high standards, shared values and strong reputations for building sustainable partnerships with customers, growers and suppliers. Now the opportunity is to take the best from both and provide our customers with great service and innovation from a trusted leader in fresh foods.”

Faccenda and Cargill’s “strong values and talented people make the difference and will be key to the success of our business now and in the future”, added Dawkins, who is also MD of Faccenda Foods. “Our first step is to make sure that there is a smooth transition as we bring together the two businesses as Avara Foods, and establish a solid platform for growth.”
