Champion: Gü Double Chocolate Brownies
Brownies in bakery might be worth over £1bn (and growing) but in chilled desserts they’ve hovered at a fraction of that (£4m), in part because they can only be served hot, drastically limiting consumption occasions. To plug this gap in the market, Gu created its Double Chocolate Brownies to be consumed either hot or cold.
This simple tweak has created an ‘all-year-round’ product that can be consumed as a chilled on-the-go snack or served warm with ice cream as dessert. The innovativeness of the product doesn’t end there either, with its chocolate crème and sprinkles topping also tapping into the trend for loaded or multi-textured brownies in high street bakeries. It’s a “delicious product” underpinned by a “brilliant concept”, said judges.
