SABMiller has appointed Nick Fell as group marketing director from 1 August. Fell joins the brewer from Cadbury Schweppes where he was director of marketing for Cadbury Trebor Bassett and president of global commercial strategy.

Fell will be based in the UK and be responsible for developing SABMiller's portfolio of international brands, including Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell and Miller Genuine Draft. He will also determine group marketing agenda, set strategic marketing priorities and continue to enhance the marketing capability of the business.

He replaces Mark Sherrington, who joined SABMiller in 2002 on a limited term assignment, with a brief to establish the group marketing function and build the foundations for the international brands. He is leaving to resume other business interests.

Fell said: "I am pleased to be joining SABMiller. It is a leader in the brewing sector with a strong global footprint and great beer brands. I look forward to working with the team and believe my experience will assist the business to deliver further growth, particularly in the areas of innovation and the move to premium and international brands."

Graham Mackay, chief executive officer of SABMiller, added: "I am delighted to welcome Nick. He has an impressive track record, having built a range of international beer and spirits brands and this experience, combined with his insight into the complexities of managing international brands in multinational businesses, will greatly benefit SABMiller."

He added: "I would like to thank Mark for his significant contribution in creating our group marketing function and establishing the necessary foundations to enable us to grow our international brands. I wish him well with his future business endeavours."
