Warburtons has appointed Robert Higginson as its new MD.
Higginson is set to move into the role in the spring, following five years as its finance director. Prior to Warburtons, he worked at Shell for 15 years in senior roles, latterly as Shell Direct MD.
Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: “Having worked with Robert over the past five years, we believe he has not only the right skills for the job but also an excellent understanding of our unique Warburtons
culture.”
He replaces current MD Brett Warburton, who is taking up the new role of executive director.
A spokeswoman said that in his new role Warburton would take responsibility for all technical aspects relating to new and existing products.
Warburton has been MD at the company for nearly six years and has worked there for more than 25 years following two and a half years at RHM Foods. He joined as marketing manager before becoming marketing manager for Warburtons’ sister company Soreen.
He then worked for two years as production and factory manager for Imperial Bakeries.
Warburton then gained an MBA from Harvard Business School in the US before returning to Imperial Bakeries to become MD, later transferring to the Pennine bakery in Oldham as general manager.
In 1991 he joined Warburtons’ HQ as joint MD of operations before becoming MD.
Stuart Ross, joint executive director for Iceland, has left. A spokeswoman said that the company would not be looking for a replacement. Ross was supply chain director at Tesco before joining Iceland. The other two executive directors, Andy Pritchard and Tarsem Dhaliwal, have become managing director and financial director respectively.

Richard Burrows, DG of Pernod Ricard, has been appointed chairman of the Scotch Whisky Association, replacing Ian Good, Edrington Group chairman. Paul Walsh, Diageo chief executive, has become vice-chairman.

William Grant & Sons has appointed Neil Brettell global brand director for Grant’s Scotch Whisky. Brettell joins from Allied Distillers where he was brand director for Ballantine’s. Fiona Burles has been promoted to global brand director for Glenfiddich.
