Sales at Booths increased 3.3% over the three weeks to 5 January 2018, boosted by a 15% uplift for its click & collect service.
Traditional Christmas favourites such as turkey and Christmas dinner trimmings saw a sales increase of 10%, while its port saw a 24% boost. Smoked salmon and gammon sales both saw 25% surges.
Low-alcohol wine sales jumped 35%, which Booths said supported “evidence that moderation is a trend that is gaining momentum in the market”.
Booths also said that its profits excluding tax also rose 4.5% compared with a year ago.
“Booths performed very well in a highly competitive market over Christmas. We focused on offering the very best traditional Christmas food and drink with flair and purpose,” said Booths chairman and CEO Edwin Booth. “Customers trust Booths for quality, service, knowledge and our commitment to find the very best suppliers. I’m delighted with our Christmas performance and the positive momentum that we are achieving throughout the business.”
Booth added he was “proud” of the dedication its staff and suppliers had shown over the Christmas period. “Credit goes to the teams who worked tirelessly throughout the year to deliver the very best service, range and value for our customers, both in our northern heartland and beyond,” he said.
