Seafood wholesaler Jaines & Son is targeting increased sales after securing a loan for new premises and equipment from Barclays.

The Grimsby company, which supplies fish to Booths and indirectly to other retailers, would not be drawn on the size of the loan, but MD Chris Sparkes said it was “substantial” and would allow Jaines to increase its staff from 35 to 50.

The company had grown turnover from circa £1.2m four years ago to its current £9.5m by expanding its customer base and the number of lines it sells.

“We hope to continue the organic growth we’ve achieved,” he said, adding that the new premises would enable further NPD and expansion.
