Swedish-owned fresh herb specialist Swedeponic UK has been renamed Lincolnshire Herbs to avoid confusion and reflect the provenance of its products.

The old name led people to believe the company was a swede producer, according to MD Patrick Bastow, whereas it actually reflected its Scandinavian parentage. The new name also highlights that its products are all grown in Bourne, Lincolnshire and its core staff are from the region.

“The group policy has always been to supply local markets with local produce, and our name change will reflect this, as well as indicating what we actually grow,” he said.

Lincolnshire Herbs had also gained planning permission to take its production site from six to nine acres and has bought land to develop into a 24-acre site in future, he added.

Lincolnshire Herbs supplies about half of the potted culinary herbs sold in the UK.
