Two Kent growers are taking on the elements and testing the potential to grow apricots, a stone fruit which traditionally thrives in sunnier climes.
Highland Court Farm and Paul Mansfield Farms selected the Tomcot and Flavourcot varieties which are now coming into commercial bearing.
While volumes of both are very small the tests have shown there is potential, although the future may lead to growing trees under some sort of cover to protect blossom in early spring.
