Bottle Green's introduction of Cranberry Pressé and a total re-styling of the way its Pressé range is presented, was typical of the tactics being employed by innovative brand leaders in the soft drinks sector over the past year.
Image, style and design have become all important in the soft drinks category, especially in the premium niche. Although taste remains a key motivation for purchase, what a drink brand says about the consumer, the way they drink it, they way they hold it and the way they use it, are now major considerations for manufacturers.
The sheer size and diversity of the soft drinks category enables brands to appeal to specific consumer groups and still achieve large volume sales. Precision marketing ensures that these narrow bands of consumers can be accurately targeted to drive purchases and stimulated to build brand loyalty.
Sales and marketing manager Ken Knight comments: "Bottle Green's range of ready-to-drink Pressés and sophisticated Cordials offer drinkers contemporary tastes, natural ingredients and bottle-shape style. Our consistently strong performance in the premium natural drinks sector reassures retailers and consumers that Bottle Green's offering can evolve in line with changing tastes and ahead of market trends."
He concedes that manufacturers of conventional soft drinks are likely to launch their own "healthy" alternatives, backed by limitless marketing expertise and financial strength, leaving the smaller companies to fight off the challenge. "It is vital therefore that organic brands, and other natural producers, such as Bottle Green, communicate their values and strengths to the consumer and continue to impress them on taste as well as on health."
Cordial reception
In the dilutables sector, Bottle Green's range of six sophisticated Cordials have continued to defy the trend and grow 30% over the past two years. Far from being "uncool", Bottle Green's Cordials, including new Orange & Cranberry, have developed particular popularity amongst consumers in the 35+ age group, a group well respected by retailers for its buying power and loyalty. "As with ready-to-drink formats, innovation in taste and design will be a winning formula for the dilutables sector," says Knight.
