In 1999 a new name emerged in the UK bottled water market Well Well Well.
The acquisition of Wells Soft Drinks' water business by The Test Valley Water Company created a unique new force, well placed to meet the challenges of the fastest growing beverage category. It is already rated as the UK's biggest bottler of water by volume, and with the UK market set for a dynamic series of developments over the coming years, the future of bottled waters is clear.
A market which has shown dynamic growth to date, bottled water still has the potential to treble volume sales within the next 10 years as penetration and consumption levels grow, and consumer health consciousness increases.
Sixty two per cent of UK households still do not purchase bottled water and only 10% of the population currently consumes the recommended 1.8l of pure water per day. Current UK bottled water consumption levels represent less than one quarter of the European regional average.
According to Well Well Well, growth will therefore be driven by new users as well as an overall increase in consumption levels a real circle of virtue.
However, to capitalise on this opportunity will require a broad approach that encompasses channel, packaging and logistical strategies as well as more traditional brand building techniques.
