A US lobby group is suing the makers of meat substitute Quorn, claiming that it can cause life threatening allergies.

The Centre for Science in the Public Interest claims that it has evidence of 800 cases of allergic reactions to Quorn, these include 170 in the US and 50 in the UK.

Nick Hughes, managing director of Marlow Foods, the Yorkshire-based makers of Quorn responded angrily to CSPI’s move.

He said that Quorn was “among the safest and best tolerated protein-based products you can buy”.
