Amazon’s plans to grow its Fresh same-day grocery delivery service have been confirmed by a job ad seeking area managers across the UK.
It’s the latest evidence of Amazon’s nationwide ambition for the service, which launched in the UK in 2016 but remains limited to London and a selection of postcodes in the home counties.
The ad, currently listed on the internet giant’s website, says: ’The Amazon Fresh operations team is developing several innovative products that focus on expanding the consumables category and require customized operations…
‘We are looking to hire area managers (fixed term contract) across the UK to join the team that redefines fast delivery and help us build and grow this service for our customers. This is your chance to make history.’
The news follows Amazon’s appointment of Tesco transformation veteran John Farrell to a ‘special projects’ role.
The Grocer reported last week that Farrell had left Tesco after 11 years, spent in roles including group transformation director, MD of new business development and finally business support director.
That followed a report by The Telegraph that about a third of the current Amazon Fresh team appeared to be recent appointments, indicating plans to grow the service.
Amazon has also secured space in central London for Amazon Go stores, where customers are automatically charged for their shopping when they leave, a real estate source disclosed to The Grocer last month.
Among other recent appointments is that of former Home Bargains recruitment co-ordinator Ryan Taylor, now Amazon’s human resources area co-ordinator.
Amazon declined to comment.
