Beer drinkers will have a wider choice this summer, with the launch of two imported brews.
Weissbier Etalon will be available in Tesco after the beer won the Best New Imported Beer category in the chain’s Brewing Awards in 2004.
Steve Holt, MD of importer Vertical Drinks, said: “I believe it is the ultimate top-fermented beer brewed with wheat malt, and we are delighted to exclusively include Weissbier in our premium imported range.”
The bottles (rsp: £1.58 for 500ml) will carry neck labels in-store, which give details of Weissbier’s awards and history, as well as tips on how to pour.
Vertical Drinks is also introducing a limited amount of Sierra Nevada Summerfest beer in Sainsbury in July. The pilsner-style lager is available in 355ml bottles with an abv of 5.0% and retails at £1.49. Fiona Bayley, drinks buyer for Sainsbury, said: “We are confident that Summerfest will prove a winner with consumers this summer.”

South African brand FirstCape has extended its core range with two entry-point, bag-in-box products: FirstCape Dry Red and Dry White (rsp: £12.99) and FirstCape Cabernet Merlot (rsp: £14.99). The Dry Red/White will be available at Kwik Save and the Cabernet Merlot at Somerfield.
Corky’s Smoothies have a bright new look to give the range more on-shelf presence.
Chileno, the Chilean wine brand, has created a reserve Gold range of five varietals, priced at £5.99. The new range will continue to use the brand’s tall, tapered bottles and C-shaped logo.
Wines of South Africa will host its Pan European tasting event on October 11-12 at Old Billingsgate in London for the wine media and trade. The Mega Tasting will showcase by region and includes themed presentations of new trends.
Stowells is making its prime-time TV sponsorship debut with sponsorship of the third series of Holiday Showdown on ITV. The deal will play a key part in the Stowells Taste the World £1.5m marketing campaign this year.
