Celebrity nutritionist Gillian McKeith has joined the fight to save goji berries from an FSA ban of them as a novel food. She told The Grocer she supported efforts to keep goji berries on shelves. "Gojis are a delicious berry that should be available to the British public," she said.

The FSA received about 60 responses to a recent appeal for information on gojis. If it can't find proof they were sold before 1997 they will have to be taken off shelves and tested for safety.

An FSA spokewoman said it didn't know when it would be able to rule on the case. "As ever, we are committed to doing things thoroughly and well."
