Nurture Brands, owner of Rebel Kitchen and The Primal Pantry, has agreed a deal to acquire pretzel supplier Indie Bay Snacks.
The premium pretzel brand, founded by Dafna Bonas in May 2016, will join Nurture Brands’ healthy snacking portfolio next month.
Indie Bay pretzels are available in impulse packs and 100g sharing formats.
In contrast to many conventional pretzel products, Indie Bay highlights its low calorie and low fat profile and its natural ingredients, fibre, and protein.
Nurture Brands, founded by Ben Arbib in March 2019, is a certified B-Corp committing 1% of net revenue to good causes, owning brands including Rebel Kitchen, The Primal Pantry, Jax Coco and Emily.
Arbib commented: “Indie Bay is a brand passionate about making genuinely delicious, wholesome pretzel snacks that inject excitement into a category in need of innovation.
“Indie Bay will broaden the Nurture Brands snacking offering and help us to become a lighthouse supplier for those customers who are seeking premium, better-for-you and sustainable snacks and drinks across the UK.”
Bonas added: “This is an exciting new chapter for Indie Bay. In Nurture Brands we have found a natural home to help Indie Bay reach its potential. Most importantly, both of our businesses share the same value set, especially around creating good, honest food that nourishes the body.”
As part of the acquisition, Dafna Bonas will join Nurture Brands as a non-executive director alongside industry veteran Adrian Carne, founder Ben Arbib, and investor Max Gottschalk.
Nurture Brands MD Adam Draper commented: “This acquisition will help our business continue to grow to become one the UK’s leading suppliers of plant-based snacks and beverages. We are still on the hunt for other brands that fit our model and share our values, so our door is open to discuss possibilities”.
Earlier this year Draper said Nurture was on track to generate revenues of £10m in 2022 across its family of brands.
It raised £2.5m in a February 2022 crowdfunding campaign to help to fuel international expansion across North American and Asian markets.
