Safeway has been rapped over the knuckles by advertising watchdogs for making misleading availability claims in a leaflet promoting French Boules.

The leaflet in question promoted an offer on a French Boules 2 pack at two of the supermarket’s stores in Canterbury.

A complaint was logged with the Advertising Standards Agency when staff at the stores did not know about the offer and were challenged on its availability.

Safeway argued that the promotion had been available in its Wincheap store in Canterbury but that a printing error didn’t make it clear the offer would only be available in that store.

The ASA told Safeway to make clear in which store offers were available to ensure all staff were informed of future promotions.
