Somerfield has announced a series of senior buying appointments, which it said added experience and further strengthened the team.
Andrew Grant became the head of category buying, BWS and cigarettes, this month, replacing Marcel Hayden who has moved to buying support.
Grant was previously commercial director at Thresher, prior to which he held a number of senior buying roles at Tesco and WH Smith.
Richard Beale will take up the newly created position of category buying director, central procurement in November.
He joins Somerfield from Marks & Spencer where he was responsible for procurement and the launch of the ‘& more’ card. Prior to this he worked with Proctor & Gamble.
Also in November, Finn Cottle, former head of fresh product, at Sainsbury, will become category buying director, non-foods, as previously announced (The Grocer, September 11, p24). She takes over from Nick Scull who was the interim director and is to become the head of category buying, produce.
Resulting from these appointments, additional internal changes will take place: John Morgan will become head of category buying, bakery and dairy, and Mike Boardman is promoted to head of category buying for core grocery on an interim basis.
