Annaliese Reekie
General manager UK and Ireland, pet division, Spectrum Brands, on sharks, Skype and The Lord of the Rings
What was your first-ever job? It was in market research, collating survey data. It was great to reveal real insights to clients, but very tedious to get there back then.
What’s been your worst job interview? I don’t recall a bad interview.
What was the first music single you bought? ‘A Good Heart’ by Feargal Sharkey. Thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones and found a good heart!
How do you describe your job to your mates? I sell great petfood brands like Iams, Tetra, Eukanuba and Furminator that promote happy healthy pets.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Finding new talent and helping people reach their potential.
What is the least rewarding part? Without doubt SAP integration work: a great platform but always different in every company.
What is your motto in life? Where there is a will, there is a way!
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? Daily access to a luxury spa and pool would be very nice.
Do you have any phobias? I grew up with the Jaws movies, so to this day sharks are still a bit of a phobia for me.
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I would like to bring more excitement and education to really engage shoppers with innovation and products.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? Skype to keep in touch with the family, otherwise I would have to swim for it (despite the sharks!).
What animal most reflects your personality? It has to be a dog, as they are loyal and always bounce back.
What’s your favourite film? The Lord of the Rings: an incredible story of good overcoming evil thanks to friendship and fellowship.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? A wardrobe malfunction at a conference. I really don’t want to say any more.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Angelina Jolie. She’s a role model for breaking down barriers on humanitarian issues and an inspiration to all women bravely battling breast cancer, while raising six children (three her own and three adopted) and making a few blockbuster movies in between. Amazing!
