Founder, Sweet Virtues, on David Essex, Dorothy and dolphins
What was your first-ever job? I was a sales assistant in Olympus (I thought I might get free sports clothes!).
What was the first music single you bought? David Essex, Oh What a Circus.
What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? When I was 13 I was cast as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in my school play. On the opening night while singing ‘Over the Rainbow’, one of the cast released wind in the most audible manner and I missed the last note. I have never reconciled this!
How do you describe your job to your mates? I don’t describe it as a job; it’s my passion - an extension of all my values and pastimes.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Providing wonderful food to people with added nutritional integrity.
What is the least rewarding part? The time it takes to get a product to market. I have a huge ‘to do’ list, and we don’t move fast enough for me.
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? To have my favourite yoga instructor at my beck and call all day long so I could do a class whenever in need!
Do you have any phobias? I am totally rubbish with heights - I want to throw myself off high buildings.
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I would take the yeast out of all products.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? My yoga instructor and mat.
What animal most reflects your personality? I’m not sure about reflecting my personality but my favourite creatures are dolphins: as they’re intelligent, insightful and humanlike. I adore them.
What’s your favourite film and why? I will always have a copy of American Beauty in my cupboard, and Pretty Woman has been in my top three for ever, as well as A Cinderella Story of course - it’s the dream come true!
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? I have a high regard for Jamie Oliver, not least because I endorse the food crusades he has been involved with. He also cooks and uses food very similarly to the way I do and I just love his use of ingredients, flavours and colours.
