Dan Thomson
Founder, Juice Club, on making drinks in the dark, being knocked out and Chris Eubank
What was your first-ever job? I worked as a barista at a coffee shop - where I picked up some of the skills I still use today.
What’s been your worst job interview? I had a trial shift at the first bar I worked in; I couldn’t see a thing as it was so dark and I made a couple of drinks horribly wrong.
What was the first music single you bought? I have absolutely no idea; it might have been one of the Now! albums.
How do you describe your job to your mates? With enthusiasm. My days are so busy, I regularly help out at the Juice Club bar in Selfridges and meet with suppliers and event organisers.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? I love surprising and educating people about the versatility of fresh fruit and veg.
What is the least rewarding part? The risk involved. For example, there was a risk when starting my own business but luckily it paid off.
What is your motto in life? Hakuna matata - no worries. I believe that everything will eventually work out for the best.
What’s your nickname? Mr Cocktails.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? I love travelling - so I’d pick free holidays!
What’s your favourite movie and why? Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. This film demonstrated just how much of a positive impact fresh produce and juice can have on your health.
Do you have any phobias? I can’t stand the thought of losing my memory. I was knocked unconscious a few years ago and was concussed; I couldn’t remember who or where I was - terrifying.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Chris Eubank. He’s a regular anyway and loves his juice!
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? I would reduce the price of exotic fruit so it is easily available to more consumers and producers.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? A lifetime supply of wine. I’m assuming there will be fruit on the island and I can grow my own veg too, so I’ll be able to make juice to balance out my diet!
What animal best reflects your personality? A cat. I love a bit of attention and affection but I’m also happy to just potter on by myself.
