What was your first-ever job? A part-time job at a restaurant called Taylors in Romford. I was 15.
What’s been your worst job interview? The hardest was for a multi-branded organisation that had me doing personality, analytical and problem-solving tests, followed by an interview. For a senior chef role. It was like being on The Krypton Factor.
What was the first music single you bought? Faith by George Michael - but if my friends ask it was Sit Down by James.
How do you describe your job to your mates? Paul Daniels with food. I have to magically make food taste great, look great and fit a budget. That is magic.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing people enjoying my food.
What is the least rewarding part? Paperwork.
What is your motto? Follow your passion and what makes you happy.
What’s your nickname? My mates call me Shoulders - I was a gymnast and regular gym-goer as a younger man.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? To fly around the country and world seeking out new and exciting produce.
What’s your favourite movie and why? Superman - I was obsessed as a kid. I think it’s why I ride a motorbike and wear leather.
What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Being ill in Delhi at a cooking exchange workshop. I was taken to an Italian restaurant as the client felt I needed to eat something other than local food. I got a lot of stick - everyone thought being taken to hospital was me being a drama queen.
Do you have any phobias? Lifts - I hate them, especially car park ones.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Gok Wan - I would love to see what he would do to our staff uniforms and management wardrobes.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? More honest foods and products. The consumer does not always get the full story.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? My wife’s fruit scones or my coffee maker… tough call!
What animal best reflects your personality? A chimpanzee - creative and loyal, with a cheeky and fun side.
