What was your first-ever job? As a sales assistant at The Pen Shop. This was the first time I realised I should start a career in marketing as I loved to sell and drove Christmas sales of Filofax through the roof!
What’s been your worst job interview? I was once invited to interview with a charity organisation. I had a nasty bout of the flu but I went to the interview anyway. The feedback was that I was too softly spoken. They got me so wrong!
What was the first music single you bought? I’m not sure about the single, but the first album I bought was Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’, which I still think is a classic.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I get to wear many different hats from the more glamorous tasks like press advertising and product taste testing to Sherlock Holmes-style data analysis.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? I get very excited when customers get in touch to tell us how our products have changed their lives. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.
What is the least rewarding part? Working for a food supplier means it’s my job to trial dozens of gluten-free pizzas, biscuits and snacks and lead taste panels, and while they are delicious and I love being a direct part of the feedback process, it does mean my Slimming World diet often goes out the window!
What is your motto in life? Strike while the iron’s hot.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? To bring my new dogs into work. I am getting two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels soon and would love to have them cosying up at my feet while I work.
Do you have any phobias? I really hate wasps and I can be a little overdramatic in my attempts to get away from them. I once threw a plate of food into the air as I tried to escape one.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? From both a shopper and supplier perspective, I would encourage retailers to stop only stocking own-label versions of products. Consumers should have the option to choose the products they prefer.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? This is an easy one a plentiful supply of chocolate!
