What was your first job? When I was around 11 years old I had a summer job maintaining pelagic fishing vessels.
What’s been your worst job interview? When I was about 20 I dreamed of being a jet pilot, but the airforce tests were really tough psychologically.
What was the first music single you bought? I think my first record was Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon in around 1979.
How do you describe your job to your mates? Most of them think I’m in London selling Norwegian fish myself! I try to explain that my role is actually to promote the excellent quality of Norwegian fish to UK consumers.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Meeting people who are as passionate about seafood - particularly Norwegian seafood - as I am.
What is the least rewarding? Travelling all the time gets pretty tiring.
What is your motto in life? Never give up. There’s always a solution.
What’s your nickname? At college I was always organising trips and parties. They called me the “tourist boss”.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A private jet!
What’s your favourite movie? The first Taken film. It shows a darker side to life but also demonstrates the father’s protective relationship with his family.
What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? When I was 21, I was a guard commander in the military. I had to raise the flag every day at 8am, but one day I tried to force it up too fast. It broke and wasn’t fixed for a week, which the whole camp - 2,000 people - were aware of.
Do you have any phobias? I’m not a big fan of rats.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be? Bono. He would be the perfect ambassador to draw more attention to Norway’s sustainable fisheries management and the abundance of cod in the Barents Sea.
If you could change one thing in the grocery industry what would it be? To label country of origin more specifically on packaging than we do.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? Ice cubes.
What animal best reflects your personality? I’d like to imagine myself as a sea eagle. They are always searching for opportunities.
